The City of Vaughan’s road allowance, also commonly referred to as "right-of-way" contains multiple utilities within municipal roadways. This area will have several utilities, including gas, hydro, water and telecommunication cables. Examples of utility boxes:
The City’s Utility department co-ordinates the installation of new utilities and addresses any concerns regarding telecommunication exposed cables, pedestals, cabinets and ground-level boxes.
Contractors are granted access to work within the city’s road allowance to install and maintain equipment. Once complete, the work area will be restored within the required timelines.
The time required to complete all work and restore the site is within six months of any work start date.
Before digging in any areas of the city’s road allowance, you must contact Ontario One Call to locate existing equipment underground. Telecommunication cables can be found 1” to 12” underground, and only a qualified technician can verify the safe place to dig.
